cat cafe hopping

AUGUST 27th, 2026

FEELING: childless. thank god.

HI! I took my aunt (ten yrs old) to class today which was very funny. I did this so that I could take her to a cat cafe I went to in Taipei, since her family can’t go due to their genetic inferiority (aka allergies hehe). She was very funny to have in class because she is already fluent so she was cringing at all of us for not knowing how to talk. OMG and in class there was a total panic moment because we were learning about how to say “wedding” in Chinese and we started talking about babies. I instinctively was like “haha yuck” and my aunt turned to me and asked “how are babies made?” and I was like “haha uhhhh what do you think” and she went “i don’t know” and I said “well if you remember to ask me again in like 30 minutes I’ll tell you because it’s kinda gross.” and she FORGOT. My god I was so nervous.

We got lunch at 7/11 and then I took her to the cat cafe! We hung out for a while and pet a few cats, the orange one was her favorite. She also had a blast talking to the worker there who obviously found her very endearing. Then we walked to another cat cafe with only one orange cat, a lot of people were drawing in there so we decided to as well. We both drew pictures of him sleeping on his bed and the staff hung it up on the wall. Also another artist in the cafe drew a still life with aunt Cass in it and gave it to us to keep :) THEN we went to a third cat cafe. The cats there were that breed that looks like it got hit in the face with a frying pan (i dont remember the name). But the third cafe was super cute and had cat themed menu items too.

Something I have left out until now is that every cafe had a food and drink minimum and literally only had sugary drinks and desserts, and aunt Cass got full pretty quick so I consumed SO MUCH SUGAR. Afterwards I felt so tired and sick. Having an adult body is still a new thing for me I guess because that’s apparently just what happens when grown-ups eat too much sugar.

So now I’m like “ok lets go home" but I forgot we had to find the Taipei main station lost and found to grab my uncle’s (eight year old boy) stuff that he lost the Wednesday before. Navigating the station was honestly sitcom-eque because I am a 23 year old who is very good at talking to people and navigating in train stations however I can’t fluently speak/read Chinese and my aunt is completely fluent in Chinese but she is 10 and doesn’t understand how to efficiently do things yet. Together we made a 23 year old Taiwanese girl, fluent in Chinese who knew her way around public transit. On the other hand… we also made one ten year old American girl lost in Taipei Main Station who didn’t know Chinese at all.

Eventually we found it after asking like 4 workers for help, and had to wait like 20 minutes in a line to access the lost and found which sucked. But on the bright side there was a cool dancing robot keeping us entertained. After we picked up his stuff we finally got to go home. I was so wiped after all that that I pretty much went straight to the couch to zone out in silence for an hour lol.

Anyway I’m writing this from class so I have to go, but it’s my last day of school today. I miss New York but I’m also sad to leave tomorrow :)

ttyl!
